Simply contacting a debt collector regarding a debt will not restart the statute of limitations on the debt. If you don't believe you owe this debt and you are unsure what the debt is for, you should send a written request to the debt collector explaining that you will not pay the debt until the debt collector provides you with verification of the debt. Explain that you don't know what the debt is for and that you want to know who the original creditor is on the account.
