If your name is on the account or state law says you are jointly responsible for the debt, when your spouse or ex-spouse files bankruptcy you will become the primary person responsible for the repayment of the debt. A divorce decree does not legally alter who is responsible for the repayment of a debt, only who (per the divorce decree) is supposed to repay the debt.
